Foucault and the Audit Profession: A Hidden Liaison

  • Did the audit profession adopt the writings of Foucault?
  • Was there any benefit for the audit profession from his ideas?
  • Did scholars use Foucault’s approach for investigating auditing as a practice of knowledge?
  • And if so: What kind of epistemology is auditing then? What can scholars and insiders say about auditing, based on the Foucault approach? What kind of control, what kind of governmentality is auditing?
  • What other trajectories of Foucauldian reception might be possible in the “audit society”?
